Tutoring in Ascot
Ascot has an unusual concentration of well-known independent schools within a short drive. Families here often consider preparation not just for 11+ but for 7+ and 8+ entrance assessments — sometimes years before secondary transfer comes into view.
The Ascot school landscape
Within a few miles of Ascot are some of the country's best-known preparatory and senior independent schools:
- St George's, Ascot — independent girls' senior school
- Lambrook — co-educational prep school in Winkfield Row
- Papplewick — boys' prep school in Ascot
- LVS Ascot — co-educational independent
- Heathfield School — independent girls' school
- Sunningdale School — boys' prep school
- Hall Grove — boys' prep in Bagshot
Each has its own entrance process. Some take children at 4+ or 5+; others assess at 7+, 8+ or 11+. Most weight interview performance and observed sessions alongside any written assessments.
Where our tutors work in Ascot
We have tutors covering:
- Ascot and Ascot Heath
- Sunninghill
- Sunningdale
- North Ascot and Cheapside
- Winkfield and Winkfield Row
- Bagshot and the nearby Surrey border
Many Ascot families prefer in-person sessions in the home — particularly for younger children. We can usually accommodate this.
Earlier-stage entrance assessments
Several local independents assess children at 7+ or 8+ for entry into Year 3 or Year 4. These assessments typically include short maths and English papers, a piece of independent writing, and an observed group activity or interview.
Preparation for these younger assessments is gentle by design. Children at this age should not be subjected to exam-style drilling. Our tutors work on:
- Reading comprehension through stories the child enjoys
- Number confidence through games and puzzles
- Handwriting and presentation
- The ability to listen, follow instructions, and ask questions
- Confidence with adults (for the interview element)
11+ in the Ascot area
Families targeting senior independents (St George's, LVS, Heathfield) typically begin 11+ preparation in Year 5, working towards January or February entrance examinations in Year 6.
Families targeting state grammar schools from Ascot are less common — Reading School and Kendrick are the most practical options — but we do work with several each year.
